Terms of use
These terms govern your use of mywhatif.org, the MyWhatIf platform and related digital services operated by MyWhatIf Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By using mywhatif.org or the MyWhatIf platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the services. Where you access MyWhatIf through a study, an institution or a program, additional terms provided to you at that time also apply.
2. About MyWhatIf
MyWhatIf Foundation is an applied-reseatch nonprofit organization developing and studying a structured, AI enabled Hope intervention intended to help people rebuild agency, purpose and a workable relationship with the future. The intervention is under active development and evaluation. It has not been cleared or approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration or any comparable regulator, and its effects are still being studied.
3. Eligibility
Access to the platform is currently granted through studies and structured implementations rather than opened generally. Eligibility for a given program is set out in the materials for that program. Minimum age and any other participation requirements are defined per program.
4. MyWhatIf is not emergency care
MyWhatIf is not an emergency response or crisis service, and it is not monitored for emergencies. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.
5. Relationship to clinical care
Using MyWhatIf does not create a clinician and patient relationship, and MyWhatIf is not psychotherapy. It does not replace a licensed clinician where clinical care is needed, and it does not provide diagnosis or medical advice. The intervention is designed and evaluated to produce measurable psychological and potentially clinically meaningful outcomes, and those outcomes are the subject of ongoing research rather than settled findings. Decisions about your care, including starting, changing or stopping treatment, belong with you and your clinicians.
6. Research participation
Using MyWhatIf is not consent to participate in research. If you choose to take part in a study, that participation is governed by the separate informed consent process for that study, the approved protocol, the requirements of the reviewing IRB or ethics board and any research specific terms provided to you. Nothing in these terms replaces or limits that consent process, and you may decline or withdraw from research in accordance with the consent documents you receive.
7. Accounts and security
If you are given an account, keep your credentials confidential and do not share access with others. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission. You are responsible for activity that occurs through your account to the extent it is within your control.
8. Acceptable use
Please do not use the services to break the law, to harass, threaten or abuse another person, or to impersonate anyone. Do not attempt to compromise the security of the services, access accounts or data that are not yours, misuse another person's information, scrape or access the services through unauthorized automated means, interfere with normal operation, or reverse engineer the services except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted.
9. Information you provide
You may share personal and sometimes sensitive information while using MyWhatIf, including what you write about your own experience. That information belongs to you. You give us the permission we need to operate the services for you, including storing, processing and personalizing your experience, and to meet our legal and research governance obligations. How we handle your information is described in our Privacy Policy.
10. AI and personalized content
MyWhatIf uses artificial intelligence and other computational systems to create personalized content and experiences. Generated content can be incomplete, inaccurate or poorly suited to your situation. Treat it as material to consider rather than instruction to follow, and use your own judgment about what to act on. You decide what you do with anything the platform generates, and we encourage you to involve your clinicians in decisions that affect your care.
11. Intellectual property
The services, including our software, models, intervention architecture, designs, written content, branding and other proprietary systems, are owned by MyWhatIf Foundation or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, revocable and non transferable right to use the services as permitted by these terms and any program materials. Nothing here transfers ownership of our intellectual property, and nothing here claims ownership of what you write about your own life.
12. Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. Our approach to safety, privacy and oversight is described on Safety and privacy.
13. Third party services
The site and platform rely on technology and services provided by other organizations, and some pages link to or embed content we do not control. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy practices. We select and review the providers we depend on, and we remain responsible for our own services.
14. Availability and changes
MyWhatIf is under active development. Features may change, be added or be withdrawn, and the services may be unavailable at times for maintenance or reasons outside our control. Where a change materially affects people using the platform in a program or study, we will communicate it through that program.
15. Disclaimers
The services are provided as they are and as available. We do not warrant that they will be uninterrupted, error free, or that any particular result will follow from using them. Statements on this site about what the intervention is designed to do are descriptions of our research and development goals, not guarantees of outcome. Legally required warranties that cannot be excluded are not excluded.
16. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, MyWhatIf Foundation is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the services. We do not seek to limit liability for our own gross negligence, willful misconduct, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
17. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the services at any time. We may suspend or end access where it is necessary to protect people using the platform, to protect the integrity or security of the services, to comply with law, or where a program ends. Where you are enrolled in a study, the consent documents for that study govern what happens to your participation and your data.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as MyWhatIf develops. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. Where a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify people using the platform before it takes effect.
20. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to MyWhatIf Foundation through our contact page.
